It has become quite apparent that through travelling and visiting various gyms across the UK there are certain brands of strength equipment that can seriously add value to the quality of the gym. My sole focus in this article is to explore Primal Strength finding out what the brand does and what it has to offer.

I was aware of Primal Strength as my local gym uses their plates weights, bars and barbell collars. These are high quality pieces of equipment and they get punished by some heavy lifting and for the ones who like to smash the weights on the floor so everyone knows they have just dominated a 40kg deadlift… Apart from using that equipment I had not been fully exposed to everything else they have to offer. After a bit of social media and website stalking I saw the high standard of equipment (they do way more than that, but more on that later).

I had seen random pieces in gyms but I was about to go to a gym fully kitted out in Primal Strength equipment and that gym was Graft Haus in Leeds. First thing first, this gym is seriously cool (and at time of writing my review is due in a few days, check it out!) I won’t eulogise over the gym but focus what it was stocked with, and it was stocked. I did not realise at first the level of input Primal Strength had on the actual gym but this gym had various chest, shoulder, back and leg machines. Solidly constructed power cages and platforms and various weights. The gym had been open approximately 18 months but the equipment looked fresh out the box, yes the gym has to take credit for this but the durability of the machines was there to see. Speaking to the co-owner and he informed me that they do take some punishment by being constantly used and some serious heavy lifting.

Equipment wise Primal Strength offer various weights and bars to meet your needs (I used the Austin Bar which packed on 300kg of Hex plates comfortably). Benches and Racks, I used the Monster Performance Rack with the Platform. This rack and platform was some size and imagery does not do it justice. There’s various racks and stands on offer as this one is a bit pricey but fully justifiable given its grading and quality. Like all good manufacturers they have a large selection of strength machines from cables to plate loaded. I used their Incline Supported T-Bar Row which has various positioning to target all of the back. A giant set on this was not fun! And the cable machines were so smooth. Top quality products. They even do cardio, I won’t dwell on this but they do have Concept2 and other brands products as well. And a vast amount of that equipment and accessories can be customised so you’re branding can be on point.

And now this is where Primal Strength differs from other competitors. It is the additional services and it is not just the flooring and storage options (which again can be customised) but it is the gym design option that is a game changer. As the website states ‘We focus on delivering premium gym equipment with expert bespoke gym design & installation service for home gyms, commercial and corporate spaces, fitness studios, schools and sports centres worldwide.‘ The team will give a you a 3D design of your gym with a full walk through video of how it can look; the premium strength equipment that is highly durable and visually attractive, they also offer cardio equipment from other established brands; you can have a full turnkey solution with support from engineers should anything go wrong with any equipment. This option might be an attractive choice for potential or existing gym owners as a lot of pressure can be taken away and they can focus on other business issues.

After using Primal Strength equipment and getting to do so at another ‘Primal Strength’ gym this coming week I certainly approve of their equipment. And the co-owner of Graft Haus was certainly more than pleased with the gym design option and the high quality of product Primal Strength delivered that he and his partner elected for and more importantly so are their members who I spoke to. Don’t believe me? Check out Primal Strength on Instagram, have a scroll through their field and I am sure you will find a gym close enough for you to visit and put their equipment to the test!
